About this area

Joints are places where bones meet. Arthritis affects the joints and can cause pain, swelling or stiffness that makes movement difficult.

The immune system normally helps defend the body against germs. In autoimmune conditions such as lupus, it attacks healthy tissue by mistake. These conditions can affect more than the joints.
